From Havana
AJ Rodriguez was born in Havana, Cuba.
His journey from Cuba to the United States was not direct.
After leaving Havana, Rodriguez and his family first went to Canada. From Canada, they continued to Connecticut in the United States.
The family later moved south to Tampa, Florida, before eventually settling in Miami.
Rodriguez was approximately eight years old when Miami became home.
Miami became the place where he grew up, attended school, entered the workforce and began experimenting with entrepreneurship.
Growing Up in Miami
Rodriguez attended Miami Killian Senior High School and completed high school there.
He did not attend college.
Much of his later business education came through firsthand work, entrepreneurship, financial setbacks and operating businesses.
At 17, Rodriguez took his first job at Winn-Dixie.
He later worked in carpentry sanding cabinets and doors.
Those early physical jobs eventually contributed to his desire to work independently.
First Business
Rodriguez’s first entrepreneurial attempt was a house-cleaning business.
The business did not generate enough income to cover his expenses, so he changed direction and started a landscaping business.
52 Lawns
Rodriguez eventually built a landscaping route of approximately 52 lawns.
The business ended unexpectedly when his equipment was stolen.
Without sufficient capital to replace the equipment required to operate, he was forced to close the business.
An Unexpected Mentor
One of Rodriguez’s landscaping customers in the Florida Keys introduced him to stocks and day trading.
The customer eventually became his trading mentor.
Rodriguez learned and participated in the markets under his guidance.
His mentor later passed away.
Rodriguez continued trading independently and eventually grew his trading account, but later lost the gains he had accumulated.
Once again, he had to change direction.
Construction
After the trading setback, Rodriguez returned to physical work.
He joined Titan Construction and worked in roofing.
He later decided to obtain his Commercial Driver’s License.
Three Years Behind the Wheel
After earning his CDL, Rodriguez became a professional truck driver.
He spent approximately three years driving trucks for other companies.
The experience gave him firsthand exposure to transportation operations and eventually led him toward truck ownership.
The First Truck
Rodriguez purchased his first commercial truck and began building his own transportation operation.
Ownership proved significantly more difficult than simply driving.
Repairs, fuel, operating expenses and household obligations consumed much of the money generated by the truck.
Rodriguez remembers periods when he did not have even five dollars to buy himself a Subway sandwich while simultaneously trying to keep a commercial truck operating.
Roadlines Transportation LLC
The first truck eventually became the foundation for Roadlines Transportation LLC.
Rodriguez attempted to expand his trucking operations into additional trucks.
Growth required significant personal sacrifice.
He sold personal possessions and things he enjoyed to continue putting capital into the operation.
Roadlines gave him firsthand experience with commercial equipment, maintenance, drivers, insurance, operating expenses and cash flow.
The experience taught him that revenue alone does not equal financial freedom when operating expenses consume most of the money generated by a business.
Miami to Kentucky
At approximately 26 years old, Rodriguez moved from Miami to Kentucky.
Kentucky became an important new chapter in his entrepreneurial journey.
It was there that he began building and developing ventures including Upick, Finwise Holding, Finwise Real Estate and AJ Venture.
Closing the Trucking Chapter
Rodriguez continued attempting to grow his trucking operations, but difficult market conditions and operating costs placed increasing financial pressure on the business.
Eventually, he made the decision to close his trucking operations.
The experience changed the way he thought about scale.
Instead of concentrating exclusively on owning individual physical assets, Rodriguez increasingly became interested in building systems and technology platforms capable of connecting larger numbers of people and businesses.
The Dream That Became Upick
Personal recollection — not a present-day claim.
Rodriguez traces the earliest inspiration for Upick to a vivid dream he had while sleeping in his truck.
In the dream, he saw a massive headquarters carrying the Upick name and saw himself standing in front of it as its owner.
He imagined the company operating at enormous, multibillion-dollar scale.
It was a dream — not a claim about Upick’s current size or valuation.
But the name, concept and scale of the idea remained with him after he woke up.
Over time, Rodriguez began building around that vision. Upick Network
Upick and Economic Opportunity
Rodriguez did not want Upick to become simply another transportation company.
His experience working hourly jobs, operating small businesses, driving trucks and running transportation equipment influenced a larger vision.
Vision — a goal, not an income guarantee and not a current result.
He began imagining a platform capable of connecting customers with independent operators and businesses across multiple real-world services.
Economic opportunity became an important part of that vision.
Rodriguez wants to build systems that can create additional ways for people and independent businesses to generate income and gain greater control over their time.
From Operator to Platform Builder
Roadlines Transportation represented Rodriguez as an operator.
Upick represented a shift toward thinking as a platform builder.
Instead of thinking only about how many trucks he could own, Rodriguez increasingly began thinking about how many people and businesses a technology platform could connect.
ChoVero
Rodriguez’s technology interests expanded into digital commerce through ChoVero.
ChoVero is a modern living brand focused on home, lifestyle, furniture, décor, and premium everyday spaces.
LinkVive
Rodriguez later developed LinkVive around ideas involving social connection, digital identity, creators, professional presence and businesses.
LinkVive represents another part of his broader philosophy that technology should connect people with useful relationships, businesses, opportunities and real-world experiences.

Finwise
Rodriguez also developed ventures under the Finwise name, including Finwise Holding and Finwise Real Estate.
AJ Venture
AJ Venture represents the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem connecting Rodriguez’s companies, projects and long-term ideas.
His professional path has included:
grocery retail → carpentry → house cleaning → landscaping → financial markets → roofing → professional trucking → transportation ownership → technology and entrepreneurship.
No College — A Different Education
Rodriguez did not attend college.
That is a description of his path, not a criticism of higher education. His own business education developed through work, customers, mentors, financial losses, transportation operations and building businesses.
Why He Builds
The central motivation connecting Rodriguez’s ventures is creating opportunity.
His own career repeatedly required adaptation.
Cleaning did not generate enough income.
Landscaping ended after his equipment was stolen.
His trading mentor passed away.
Trading gains were later lost.
Construction returned him to physical work.
Trucking created opportunity but significant financial pressure.
Roadlines eventually closed.
Each transition forced another path.
Those experiences influenced the question behind much of what Rodriguez builds today:
A question of vision — not a claim that these paths already exist at scale.
Can technology give more people additional paths?
Paths to customers.
Paths to income.
Paths to independence.
Paths to businesses of their own.
Still Building
This is not a retrospective biography of a finished career. Rodriguez is still actively building.
Build something that creates opportunity.
This is the story behind why AJ Rodriguez builds.
